Greening Program
The Greening Our Science Centers initiative is a solutions-based program designed to track, quantify and improve energy use, and reduce emissions output. The program allows participating institutions to operate more efficiently, "walk their talk" and gain a unique educational opportunity to share their efforts with constituents.
Step 5: Implement Your Plan
How will you turn your plan into reality? The first year of the plan is critical Your Green Team will need to meet regularly and consider the following questions as it begins to implement the recommendations, focusing first on the operational (internal) aspects of your Plan.
- Structure
Who will champion the Greening Plan?
Who is on the team, who is chairing the team?
How will you stay on schedule?
- Funding
Who will pursue the required resources?
(One idea is to consider appropriating seed money for a revolving fund, which can be used to provide capital for projects with favorable payback periods.)
- Assistance
How can you incorporate outsiders into your plan – peer mentors, utility programs, ESCO performance contracts
- Monitoring
How will you track and report progress? Your Green Team will need to decide what data is collected, by whom, how often. They will also need to decide to whom it is reported, and in what fashion.
